Old sins....

Last time this Speedway bike was feed with methanol was in the winter of 1982. My brother and some friends took it out for some ice racing. They ran out of methanol at high revs and caused a valve to burn. So the bike went into the cellar…..

Sorry state....

Well, don`t time seem to fly when you have fun? `Nearly thirty years later my friend Speedy Gonzales Gunnar starts to bug me for JAP and speedway parts. I don`t want to part with stuff I might need so I had to get the bike together.

So where did I put the seat and mud guard?
And guess what,  the valve is still burned…

Ice racing.

Saturday....Fill up the car with friends and drive to a cold place to watch motorcycles.....Why did my wife want to stay home by the fire?

Speedway bike modified for ice speedway:

Screws in the tires.

Ice racing bike:

The spikes gives so much grip that there are no wheel spin. You can lean over until the knee gets in the ice when cornering.

Warming up the engine ice racing style....

It`s not the destination, it`s the journey….Skåne rundt rally necessity.

In this age of fluorescent wests and full face helmets, the vintage motorcycle rally contender will find even more challenges.
Long gone are the time when oil pressure and hang overs where your only worry at rally’s…..At some vintage events you have to make an effort to find your way thru the course…So this create a lot of strange map holder/route planner devises.

Some inspiration for the handy, do-it-yourself motorcyclist:

Wonder what’s the rider’s favorite drink?

“I knew that the Meccano set would become handy one day…..”

Binocular vision?

Probably made from mahogany leftovers from last year’s boat restoration.

And remember…….your craft will be judged by your equals….
